Term 4 - Career Exploration Conclusions, Acess, and Powerpoint
Job Ad Glog - June 1, 2012
a. In this assignment, we were required to create a job add through the glogster tool - an interactive blog - and to describe the prerequisites, info, and skills necessary to pursue a career of our choice. We were also required to embed the glog onto our electronic portfolio. This assignment was unique in that we had to use the glogster tool for the first time; after learning how to use the glogster, and discovering the fundamentals, we needed little more than common sense skills to finish the assignment. As I stated prior, we learned how to effectively use the glogster tool as a medium through which we could display info. The glogster tool itself didn't require too much effort to learn, due to its "drag-and-drop" controls, which is a relief in comparison to actual coding. I believe that I was concise in the explanation of the career prerequisites and required skills, unlike some other assignments, where I may have been overly verbose. I also think that the images I used complimented the glog very well, despite the lack of overall creativity. I felt that despite the writing and imagery, the creativity and overall aesthetics of the assignment were lacking severely. I feel that some of the colors clash, and that some of the shaps seem too similar, and some too different. If I could improve the assignment, I would set aside more time to create a series of visually aesthetic colors and text boxes prior to writing.
Final Conclusions of career research, including charts of career data in Excel, through step 14 - 5/2-5/7/12
In this assignment, we were required to create three graphs that displayed the statistics of three different careers in three different categories: job growth, salary, and years of post-secondary education. After creating the charts on the spreadsheet, we copied them to the word document to complement our final conclusion. We used older excel skills to a higher degree of analysis; we were required to match the info provided with the graph that best suited it. After doing so, we then improved the graphs aesthetics through different means. While I didn't learn anything from this assignment, per se, it did help me choose the final career that I selected for my glog - that being, a judge or magistrate - due to a combination of salary, and post-secondary educational flexability. I felt that this assignment was very straightforward in what it expected us to do, and I felt that I got the job done; considering the factual accuracy and visuals were outstanding in my opinion, I feel that changing it would be unnecessary.
Database created in Access for Celebrity Addresses - 6/1/12
This was our first exposure to Microsoft Access as a class, so I felt that this assignment was going to be much more difficult than it actually was - in reality, it simply involved the creation of a database of celebrities and the information associated with them. In this assignment, we required basic technology skills; in other words, little more than common sense and knowledge of the microsoft programs. Despite doing a plethora of assignments throughout the year, I can candidly say that this one was unique in that it taught me a totally new skill, as opposed to developing or supplementing an old on - which, of course, is not to say that it was more useful. As with the above assignment, I felt that there is little to do that requires improvement because the assignment was copying information verbatum from the prompt; therefore, given a chance to redo it, I would most likely leave it as it is.
